Tamalyn Dallal has dedicated her life to Raqs Sharqi (AKA “Bellydance.”) She dances it as a daily practice for health, healing, exercise and relaxation. This dance is a “miracle dance” that reduces stress and helps us appreciate and love Egyptian, Turkish and Levantine music and culture.

Connecting Dance and Music

We will delve into musical instruments, rhythms and structure and how to listen with your body, your movements, and find yourself in the dance.  

Recordings of each class will be available the same day on Zoom. You can request Google Drive versions e mailed to you as well.

"Zeina"

From the 1956 Egyptian film "Zenouba" this song is fun and the musical changes are easy to hear. It is 4 minutes long, composed by the famed Mohammed Abdel Wahab, this classiccan be danced as a solo or a group. Low stress and fun. Tamalyn taught it in Charleston, SC recently and they loved it. So it is great to dance it online too.

Embodiment of Egyptian Music Through the Ages, 1920's to Present
We will learn about how dance styles changed from the 1920's until today. Much of these changes come from the music. How can we embody this music and embrace the energy of bygone eras and add it into our own dance style.

Originally taught in January, 2024, This class involves drills and exersises with combos. It recieved so much enthusiasm from those who took the class that it is being offered as series of 4 recordings for those who missed it. $50.
Recordings are on Google Drive, which you can keep to study with over and over.

This series covers Tamalyn's clear and concise approach to basic bellydance movement. In every dance form it is important to have a good base. This class is appropriate for beginners as well as dancers who want to review and polish the basics.

Among the topics she will teach are: "Bolero" (the intersection between Arabic dance and Bolero) Plus one more Latin themed workshop and a talk about her experiences traveling and dancing for Arabic communities throughout Latin America.
